Euro area leaders
Leaders of those EU countries that have euro as their currency meet regularly together with all EU leaders in the European Council.
In addition, dedicated euro area meetings are often held in the full European Council format.
Euro area only meetings, in the form of the Euro Summit, are enshrined in the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance (TSCG).
The Euro Summit, chaired by the Euro Summit President, brings together euro area heads of state and goverment plus the President of the European Commission. The President of the European Central Bank is also invited.
The Eurogroup is charged with the preparation and follow-up of Euro Summit meetings, and the Eurogroup President may therefore be invited to attend meetings.
The President of the European Parliament may be invited to be heard at Euro Summit meetings. The Euro Summit President is also required to present a report to the European Parliament after each Euro Summit meeting.
When appropriate and at least once a year, leaders of non-euro area member states that have ratified the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance participate as well.
